STX has released a final trailer for its crime thriller 21 Bridges, ahead of the film’s release next month. Headlined by Chadwick Boseman and produced by his Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo, 21 Bridges has already gone through a pair of release date changes, having previously moved from July to September and then once again to November. Thankfully, with three and a half weeks left, it’s looking like its new date will finally be the one to stick.
Written by Matthew Michael Carnahan (Deepwater Horizon) and Adam Mervis (The Philly Kid) and directed by Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones), the film stars Boseman as Andre Davis, an NYPD detective who puts all of Manhattan on lockdown in order to catch a pair of cop-killers. 21 Bridges is slated to debut over this year’s packed pre-Thanksgiving weekend, so that accounts for STX releasing a third and final trailer in time for it to play alongside the big movies arriving between now and then.
The final trailer for 21 Bridges is now online, ahead of its premiere in theaters (presumably, starting with Terminator: Dark Fate this weekend). You can check it out in the space below.
After the original 21 Bridges trailer focused heavily on Davis’ past (revealing his father was a police officer gunned down in the line of duty, making his current mission a personal one) and the SDCC preview zeroed in on the conspiracy surrounding the wanted fugitives played by Taylor Kitsch and If Beale Street Could Talk’s Stephan James, there’s not a whole lot of new ground for the movie’s final trailer to cover. Nevertheless, it highlights some of Davis’ more memorable one-liners in the film (including a zinger involving the word “trigger”) and continues to emphasize his commitment to finding justice and the truth, no matter where his journey takes him. And if J.K. Simmons (who’s shown advising Boseman here) is to be believed, then Davis’ chosen path is definitely a treacherous one.
Overall, 21 Bridges continues to look like a perfectly respectable, if maybe conventional, crime drama, though Boseman’s performance could prove to be the element that elevates it into something more than that. The film actually has a fair chance of drawing a decent-sized crowd over its opening weekend, providing an R-rated counter option to the other new releases (namely, Frozen II and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) due to premiere that same frame. 2019 has been a roller coaster ride for STX at the box office (The Upside and Hustlers were hits, everything else less so), but they may yet end their year on a good note here.
