Avengers: Infinity War was an emotional rollercoaster of a movie with some hilarious moments and some extremely traumatic ones for fans also. With so many emotional and funny scenes in the movie, the film is full of some memorable quotes.
“What’s the matter with you kids? You never seen a spaceship before?”
Stan Lee was well-known for his frequent cameos in not just the MCU movies but any of the movies based on Marvel properties that he had a hand in. One of the last few made before his death in late 2018, his traditional gag for this MCU movie is one of his best.
The line comes after a confused Ned hilariously does what Peter Parker was trying to get him to do, which was to cause a distraction on the bus, by panicking at the sight of Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian’s ship appearing over Manhattan. Lee plays the bus driver who finishes the moment with this perfectly delivered line.
“Mr. Stark, it smells like a new car in here!”
After Ned’s handy distraction, Peter Parker is able to get suited up as Spider-Man and enter the battle for the Time Stone in New York. He valiantly does his best to help out in the middle of the war between Tony Stark and Stephen Strange’s egos and ends up pursuing the captured Doctor Strange to Maw’s ship as it flies up to leave the Earth’s atmosphere.
With the air thinning, and Spider-Man without a breathing apparatus to help in his fabric suit, Iron Man sends up one of his latest inventions to catch Peter and encase him in a new metallic suit. True to his character, Peter gives this hilarious reaction to the incredible moment and it perfectly shows the much-needed levity that Spider-Man brings to Infinity War.
“Dude, you’re embarrassing me in front of the wizards.”
One of the funniest gags in Avengers: Infinity War is Tony Stark’s flippancy toward the world of magic within the MCU that he only discovers at the beginning of the movie. He shows this several times by referring to Doctor Strange and Wong as “wizards” as opposed to their preferred titles of sorcerers.
When it becomes clear that the Hulk is refusing to co-operate with Bruce Banner during the fight for the Time Stone in New York, Tony mutters this side-splitting aside to Bruce as he begins to fear that Stephen Strange might get to upstage him.
“It’s like a pirate had a baby with an angel.”
When Thor meets the Guardians of the Galaxy, the ridiculous humor of the two properties blends together perfectly and the Guardians team have plenty of funny observations when they come across the God of Thunder for the first time.
Commenting on Thor’s eyepatch and the divinely good looks of the superbeing, Drax delivers this classic line as he looks at an unconscious Thor. Some of the best lines in Infinity War are the throwaway riffs of the Guardians and this is one of the best.
“Dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same.”
Thanos makes one of the grandest entries of Infinity War, finally getting a full role in the MCU after being teased with small cameo appearances for years, and the Mad Titan does not disappoint.
Giving his first villain monologue of the movie as he drags a beaten Thor along with him, Thanos introduces the audience to his full character and his ethos. He considers himself to be an instrument of fate, if not a personification of it, and he’s so clearly powerful and unhinged that it’s hard not to be scared of him right from the word go thanks to lines like this one.
“I assure you, brother. The sun will shine on us again.”
Loki fans were devastated when the character died before the title credit to the movie even appeared. Though he appeared again in Avengers: Endgame and got his own Disney+ series in 2021, fans were possessed for a moment by the terrible thought that this could be the last time they’d see Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.
This quote is one that Loki says to Thor just before his death, and this moment gives many fans hope that the two will somehow be reunited one day.
“Did you ever see this really old movie, Aliens?”
In a lot of ways, the MCU movie that Joe and Anthony Russo directed before Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War, was their first Avengers movie as it contained most of the team and introduced a lot of new members. One of them was the MCU’s Spider-Man and this line is a fun throwback to their big debut during the airport scene.
In Civil War, Spider-Man comes up with an ingenious plan to take down Giant-Man by drawing inspiration from The Empire Strikes Back and he uses another one of the best sci-fi movies from the 1980s to explain his plan to get the drop on Ebony Maw. As it turns out, what Peter meant by the comparison was the ending where the Xenomorph queen gets blown out into space.
“When you said you were going to open Wakanda to the rest of the world, this is not what I imagined.”
When Wakanda teams up with some of the Avengers to help fight against Thanos, Okoye has a few thoughts about this. In this hilarious quote, she tells T’Challa that she was looking forward to having the Olympics and Starbucks, not to fighting aliens.
Okoye didn’t have a lot of scenes in this movie, but the ones she did have were pretty badass. Whether she’s saying hilarious lines or kicking alien butt, she’s definitely a much-needed addition to the team of heroes and this was one of her best quotes from Infinity War.
“I am Groot.” “I am Steve Rogers.”
This adorable moment was one that many fans loved. Captain America is a pretty serious person all around, and he is also very earnest.
When Groot says hello, or whatever he actually says after Thor introduces him, Steve doesn’t even think twice about the fact that Groot is a tree. Instead, he politely introduces himself, and the interaction was one that fans definitely couldn’t get enough of.
“…get lost, Squidward.”
Tony Stark is known for his snark and wit, and, despite the intensity of what was happening in this movie, he had no shortage of witty one-liners.
This is one of his funniest lines from the film, especially since the character that Tony says it to–Ebony Maw–really does look like Squidward. Iron Man is great at including pop culture references in his insults, and this is one of the best examples.
“We’re in the endgame now.”
Doctor Strange says this line to Iron Man when Thanos gets the best of them and everything is about to go really bad.
The quote is also a clever reference to the title of Avengers: Endgame, even though most people didn’t realize that at the time. Fans knew that it meant something and that Strange had seen the future where the Avengers win, but the answers to the burning mystery of what that endgame would actually be is a secret that Doctor Strange keeps to himself.
“Kick names, take ass.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies are known for their humor and more light-hearted feel. However, Infinity War was one of the darkest movies in the MCU so far.
Adding the Guardians into a more somber film meant that they had a lot of opportunities to stand out with their naivety and funny lines. Mantis is a mostly innocent character who is also very powerful. With this quote, she is trying to be hardcore but messes up the popular saying in a really sweet and funny way.
“I’m not looking for forgiveness, and I’m way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we’re here to fight.”
In Infinity War, Steve Rogers is a fugitive from the law and has been spending his time off the grid. However, of course, when the world really needs him again, he shows up to help.
With Iron Man gone, Steve isn’t here to mess around, and he showed he stopped caring about playing nice. This version of Captain America is very different than how he was earlier on in the MCU, with him often struggling with feeling like a man out of time, and this quote showed just how much he’d developed since the first Avengers movie.
“Families can be tough.”
Thor gives some wise insight into how difficult it can be dealing with family drama. While the MCU might be filled with heroes and aliens, there are still moments that many fans can relate to on a personal level and this line is a good example of that.
Thor is talking to Gamora and comforting her over the fact that Thanos is her adoptive father. He shows his compassionate side here and does so in his characteristic sweet and hilarious way.
“Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good.”
Fans will never forget this quote from a terrified Peter Parker just before he turns to dust after Thanos’ snap.
Spider-Man is such a lovable and earnest character, and seeing him go the way he did was a tough moment for many fans but it also became one of Infinity War’s best memes.
