To celebrate the immense success of the MCU’s Avengers, we‘ve put together a list of 15 of the best quotes from the Avengers movies. From hilarious quotes to inspiring ones, these lines are iconic for fans of the Marvel Cinematic universe.

15. DOTH MOTHER KNOW YOU WEARETH HER DRAPES?

Before calling this quote out on just being a comical line, consider the source. This is one of the first things Tony Stark says upon meeting Thor, and later the rest of the Avengers. Sarcastic and humorous it might be, but it’s the perfect way to summarize Iron-Man’s character. In a way, it’s Tony’s way of establishing his role as leader of the group. What else would a genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist behind a suped-up metal suit say to a god of thunder?

14. GENIUS-BILLIONAIRE-PLAYBOY-PHILANTHROPIST.

Speaking of which, certain low-level fans of the franchise try to throw Tony Stark into the same category as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Without the suit, is he really a superhero? Or as Captain America puts it, “Big man in a suit of armor, take that away and what are you?” To which Tony offers this sharp retort.

Even without the Iron-Man project, he still does a lot of good through his company, resources, and scientific innovations.

11. LANGUAGE!

Steve Rogers, where would the world’s mightiest heroes be without your moral compass and tried-and-true sense of duty and honor, as any good soldier should have. That being said, this running joke did result in one of the most famous meme-able moments in the entire MCU. Iron-Man and Thor are both more than a little rough around the edges, with Thor being a literal Viking god and Tony being, well, Tony… Cap was bound to call them out, and of course, get teased in the process.

12. PUNY GOD.

The Incredible Hulk has always been a man of few words, but this one utterance truly captures his might, power, and low tolerance for the likes of Loki. As beloved as the god of Mischief might be, he still falls into the oldest supervillain cliche in the book.

He starts monologing. As he’s delivering his sinister speech, Hulk takes the golden opportunity to beat the living daylights out of him in Stark Tower. He may be a god, but he can still feel pain.

11. SUPERHEROES IN NEW YORK? GIMME A BREAK.

If there was one quote from Stan the Man himself, it had to be this one. The irony that drips heavier than honey on this quote is perfectly palpable. For a man who spent most of his life writing about superheroes in New York, you would expect him to be the biggest True Believer, right? Well, not in The Avengers. It’s an inside joke that might go over the heads of some viewers, but one that true fans of the comics and movies will forever admire.

10. I CAN DO THIS ALL DAY.

This quote is said by Captain America multiple times in the MCU and sort of sums the character up in a very succinct way. Captain America is a man that doesn’t quit. He’s very stubborn and he always does his best to do the right thing and save the day. Even at times when maybe he should change course, he’s committed to seeing his plan through even if it means sacrificing himself.

9. IF WE CAN’T PROTECT THE EARTH…

Tony Stark says this line towards the end of the first Avengers film. This is an inspiring moment that shows that the Avengers are learning to work together as a team and be one unit. Tony says this line with a lot of conviction, and it lets audiences know that the Avengers won’t stop trying to save the world, even if they mess up at first. This was definitely a line that fans will remember and that deserves a cheer.

“Cause if we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damn sure we’ll avenge it.”

8. THERE WAS AN IDEA…

“There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if we could become something more”

This quote by Nick Fury is one that resonates throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Said in The Avengers, this line explains the idea behind the Avengers Initiative and what the Avengers were meant to be. While the Avengers haven’t always worked together as a team, when they’re at their best, they become more than their individual powers and become a team that has the ability to truly keep the world safe.

7. I UNDERSTOOD THAT REFERENCE.

While many of the best quotes from our favorite Avenger are more serious, wise, or inspiring, the MCU is also full of a lot of humor. One of the best things about the MCU is seeing the heroes riff off each other and throw out some witty one-liners. This hilarious moment in Avengers gives some insight into Captain America’s character and shows that while he might be a man out of time, he can also be pretty funny. This line also highlights the disparate pasts and backgrounds that the individual Avengers have.

6. IF WE’RE GOING TO WIN THIS FIGHT…

In Avengers, Hawkeye had a lot of hilarious moments and was also a skilled archer and member of the team. This line from Hawkeye reveals a hard truth about how the Avengers often function in the MCU. Sometimes, they can’t all win and this line somewhat foreshadows the ending of Avengers: Endgame.

“If we’re going to win this fight, some of us might have to lose it”

5. IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO?

Thor is a Norse God and also a hilarious person. Thor’s good nature and battle skills make him enjoyable to watch and a great team member. Thor’s taunting line here, delivered to the full might of Ultron’s forces during the climax of the second Avengers movie, might not have been the best thing to say, as, of course, things always get worse after saying a line like this.

4. THE CITY IS FLYING AND WE’RE FIGHTING AN ARMY OF ROBOTS…

This is another classic quote from Hawkeye said in Avengers: Age of Ultron. With this quote, Hawkeye calls out just how wild and ridiculous the situation the Avengers have found themselves in actually is. While aliens flying through New York City might have seemed pretty out there for the time, it was sort of just the tip of the iceberg of all the things that the Avengers would have to face in the MCU. Battling Ultron and his robot army in the sky was something else altogether!

“The city is flying and we’re fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense.”

3. THESE GUYS COME FROM LEGEND, CAPTAIN…

Black Widow says this line towards the start of Avengers. She’s warning Cap not to engage considering how strong Loki and Thor are, but, of course, Captain America can never keep himself from a fight. Even though Thor might be the only god in the Avengers, all of the other members of the team have their own unique skills to offer. Even Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Iron Man who aren’t technically super-powered are integral.

“These guys come from legend, Captain. They’re basically Gods.”

2. …PEOPLE MIGHT NEED A LITTLE OLD FASHIONED.

Phil Coulson hasn’t been in any MCU films since Avengers, which is still such a shame. While he has featured in the Agents of Shield television show, this fan-favorite could have had a lot more to offer the Avengers. Phil Coulson always believed in the Avengers, especially in heroes like Captain America. In this quote, he encourages Steve to take up the Captain America mantle and inspire people once again.

“With everything that’s happening, the things that are about to come to light, people might need a little old fashioned”

1. I STILL BELIEVE IN HEROES.

Nick Fury says this inspiring quote in Avengers. While Nick Fury might be a complicated character, he was instrumental in getting the Avengers together to save the world. Just like Nick Fury, audiences wanted to believe in the Avengers and hearing this line was definitely a rallying moment for the team as well as for fans of the MCU.
